Renal radionuclide studies have progressed from the probe to the gamma camera and sophisticated hard- and software, yet the principles remain the same.

Many of the problems were identified and the solutions proposed 25 years ago, but these solutions are still not applied in practice. This survey charts the evolution of renography during this period. The results indicate that knowledge of the urine flow rate during renography is necessary for meaningful interpretation of the study.

They further showed that for semi-quantitative assessment of the renogram the time to peak and time to peak half values are easily identified indexes that can be measured accurately with negligible observer.

Britton, K.E. and Brown, N.J.G. Brit. Radiol. 41, 57–, Radioisotope techniques currently applied in urology are surveyed. More important fields of application of radiorenography are discussed.

Based on personal experience and literary data, the use of radioisotope methods is advocated primarily for functional diagnostic purposes. 5) Britton K. E., Brown N.
